{"id":5766,"date":"2019-04-27T18:46:19","date_gmt":"2019-04-27T22:46:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ackc.org\/?page_id=5766"},"modified":"2019-05-13T12:18:14","modified_gmt":"2019-05-13T16:18:14","slug":"common-terminology-criteria-for-adverse-events","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ackc.org\/jayedit\/common-terminology-criteria-for-adverse-events\/","title":{"rendered":"Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Adverse Event grades are used to evaluate the severity of an adverse event in kidney cancer patients as well as to ascertain, in a clinical trial, the toxicity of a therapy or combination of therapies.<\/p>\n<p>The Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) displays Grades 1 through 5 with unique clinical descriptions of severity for each Adverse Event (AE) based on this general guideline:<\/p>\n<table id=\"general_table\" class=\"ae\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<th>Grade<\/th>\n<th>Criteria<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Grade 1<\/td>\n<td>Mild; asymptomatic or mild symptoms; clinical or diagnostic observations only; intervention not indicated<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Grade 2<\/td>\n<td>Moderate; minimal, local or noninvasive intervention indicated; limiting age appropriate instrumental ADL*<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Grade 3<\/td>\n<td>Severe or medically significant but not immediately life-threatening; hospitalization or prolongation of hospitalization indicated; disabling; limiting self-care ADL**<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Grade 4<\/td>\n<td>Life-threatening consequences; urgent intervention indicated<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Grade 5<\/td>\n<td>Death related to an adverse event<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><em>Note: a semicolon indicates \u2018or\u2019 within the description of the Grade. Not all Grades are appropriate for all AEs.
